Clearing.— All trees, stumps, shrubs, etc., are to be removed at least level with the surface of the ground, and the sticks racked up so that the land cam be properly ploughed or cultivated for the drilling and harvesting of a grain crop.

Scrub Rolling.— This must be done with a roller sufficiently heavy to break down the scrub, so that it will remain flat on the land and cease to grow. Spring backs are to be cut down during the rolling or immediately after the rolling is completed. The rolling must be done at least three months before the scrub is to be burnt.

Burning. Burning is to be done in suitable weather and during the period commencing 14th February and ending 14th March.

Fencing.— Any portion of a fence erected is to be such that, when completed, it will comply with the Land Act regulations. The posts are to be of ti-tree and not less than 3 ½in. diameter at the small end. They may be from 12 to 33 feet apart. When more then 12 feet apart, a sufficient number of approved wooden or metal droppers are to be inserted between them. Posts to be sunk 22 inches in the ground.

Cultivation for first Crop. — This is to commence immediately after burning off is done. The ground is to be tilled thoroughly to a depth of three to four inches. This may be done by working once with a plough, disc cultivator, or twice with a spring-tooth cultivator. When the work is done with the latter implement, the second cultivation is to be at right angles to the first.

Seed and Fertiliser. — The amount of seed authorised for the first crop will not exceed one bushel nor the amount of fertiliser sixty pounds.
