473/11 31st May, 1911. Sir, I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 9th instant. My letter of the 29th April last explains that children under (7) years of age receive half rations, and those above that age full rations. If parents are out of work, or are unable to work from illness, their families should receive rations at the rate I have mentioned, but natives who are able to work, but for some reason are unable to obtain it, should only be temporarily relieved. 6d. per day each native is quite sufficient an allowance in your district. No native in distress should be allowed to want, but in all cases you temporarily re- lieve, the cases must be reported to me by post.
