14 Date Stamp: DISTRICT POLICE OFFICE, No 145 14, 17 JAN 1912, NORTHAM Reside at Catabody ?? where a number of new settlers have taken up land in recent years, and from complaints received these Half Castes are the source of sufficient trouble to them owing to their pilfering habits, Which in my opinion they would be the source of more occurrences if these exemptions were granted. As they would then be able to procure liquors & convey it to a number of Aboriginals who are who are employed by Clarkson Bros near Catabody, which is over 30 miles from a Police Station, In their own interests I would strongly recommend that exemptions be refused to them. File forwarded to Gomalling this date J Healy Const 271 Newcastle 11/2/12 Sub Insp Woods I concur to P.C. Allis & Healy, these half-castes are a source of trouble now & if the application is granted more trouble is sure to follow. I respectfully suggest that the exemptions should be refused. J ? Connor P.C 461. Goomalling 15/2/12 Date Stamp: Aborigines and Fisheries Department - 19 Feb 1912. The Chief Protector of Aborigines I fully agree with all the police reports in this correspondence and I am and always was opposed to the Half Castes being allowed to obtain liquor the same as white men (in their own interests and that of the aborigines & public) ?? signature 17:2:12
