13 Western Australia POLICE DEPARTMENT Eastern District Newcastle Station 11 February 1912 DATE STAMP: (DISTRICT POLICE OFFICE No 145 13 17 Jan 1912 NORTHAM) REPORT of Const J Headly Reg. No. 271 relative to Application of sundry Half Castes for exemption from Ab Nat Act. Sub Insp Woods I respectfully report that I concur with facts as stated in Const Allis's Report. The majority of these Half Castes are known to me. And previous to the Aborigines Act of 1905, they were a source of great trouble to the Police & public when they come into town or show or race meetings. And when they were instrumental in procuring liquors for the Aborigines, & then helped them to drink it & make whatever locality they were in a Hell upon earth to the local residents until they were ? or arrested by the Police. But since 1905 the trouble has been minimised. Indeed I am quite satisfied if these exceptions are granted there will be a repetition of the old trouble a number of these Half Castes. Officer In Charge Eastern District Northam.
