I am forwarding you a copy of an application received from a number of half-caste aboriginals for certificate of exemption from the provisions of the Aborigines Acts. Will you please cause enquires to be made and report sent in on the character and mode of life of each applicant, and any other information that can be placed before the Hon. the Colonial Secretary. If these men, or any one of them is living a good, honest and respectable life, I have every desire to help them to continue so by recommending their application, provided, of course, that the privilege granted will not be abused.
