9 pm, of the 29 ult. when he was laying down to sleep he saw a native running toward him and seeing that that native had thrown some thing at him, he turned his body over the left side and at the same moment a spear came to him so near that had him been laying on his back as before the spear would have gone through his chest and killed him on the spot. On the morning of the 30, followed the tracks of that native and having met with two natives viz;, Bob Jutimara and his brother George Dargana, he immediately identified the former as the one that had thrown the spear at him. On the afternoon of the same 30th John Walley having returned home and informed me of the case I called at your but you being out on duty, I thought better to inform of the case Mrs Gilchrist at Newcastle as I did by wire that same day. Mrs Gilchrist came here with a policeman and having I allowed one of my natives to accompany them as a guide, they got Bob Jutimara and took him prisoner having taken from him a loaded and capped gun and several spears.
