405/39 File dealing with Church Services at MRNS McB/S 23 June, 1948 STAMP: (Native AFFAIRS RECORDS INWARDS 24 JUN 1948) The Superintendent, Moore River Native Settlement, M O G U M N E R. As from Sunday next, the 27th instant, it is my wish that all natives, whether adult or children, who are of the Anglican Faith, or are Protestants, shall attend the Church Service conducted by Sister Kathleen Jones at 11am each Sunday morning. As from next Sunday attendance at the 11 am service is to be compulsory for Protestants, and defaulters are to be dealt with according to Regulations. During Sister Eileen Heath's term as Missionary at Moore River Native Settlement compulsory Church parades were observed, but as a long period elapsed before the appointmant of a successor, no action has been taken to date to re- introduce this procedure. My Visits to Moore River since the arrival of Sister Kathleen have convinced me that she is exercising a very good influence upon the young children, and the adolescents, there- fore you might extend your support in every way to assist on the spiritual and welfare side of the institutional activities. (C.L. McBeath) ACTING COMMISSIONER OF NATIVE AFFAIRS (Handwritten comments) Acting Deputy To date, I also spoke to Mr. Cunic yesterday about this matter when he was in the office.I am not altogether certain that Mr. Cunic is extending 100% support to Sister Kathleen and I have heard that he has openly decries ? before her. If I secure any evidence of this I will take a motion up with him personally. 24.6.48 (?Signature?)
