MOORE RIVER NATIVE SETTLEMENT MOGUMBER April 10th, 1944 Date Stamp: DEPARTMENT OF NATIVE AFFAIRS, 11 APR. 1944. Native Affairs, Re Sister Eileen and her evening church services. I very strongly recommend that no church services be held at this settlement after dark, at present moment I get all the children and big girls round- ed up and in the dormitorys, and the roll called along comes Sister and promptly lets 75% of them out again to go to church, putting them in and calling the roll thus becomes a farce, further, naturally all these inmates miss their nightly bath, cannot help thinking owning to the trouble we've had here with scabies, cleanliness should come before Godliness. and the thing these church services in the dark gives all the young bucks a legitimate excuse to hang around the compound after dark, the excuse being "Church", actually they're after the girls. Phil Leeming.
