May 19th Just after midnight. 18/19th. Enemy attacked us at several points tremendous musketry fire, got up & awaited events but after about 1 hour noise died away. About 3.45 a.m. Enemy renewed his attacks with an incessant cannonade from all quarters & with all sorts of shell, the Infantry have been asking for help as the Enemy Guns are knocking them about pretty badly. we are doing all we can to help them but the N.Z. ART. are the people who can do so much it is now 8.30 a.m. & the din has been incessant. Since 3.45 a.m. Enemy shell fire is very heavy, but so far his Infty attacks have been repulsed all along the [ ] line. Gen Walker last night directed
