emplacements without Officers. He further stated he considered I had worked very hard &[ ] my conduct had been very gallant. In the evening I had a long talk with G.O.C. & came to an understanding on[ ] points there had been doubts or complaints about. I explained or wanted to the many difficulties I had had to contend with, but G.O.C. said he knew, & only desired to now get things going on a proper & sound basis. I proposed to submit orders clearing up various short comings on part of Artillery & submit for him to see following Evening. May 23rd Rather quiet day.
