panoramic sketches etc I have issued for F. Artillery & others & everything is much more satisfactory, but there is still difficulty in getting orders thoroughly & promptly obeyed at times. The work is still very hard generally from 6/30 a.m. until 10/30 p.m. & frequently disturbed during the night. May 25th A very dark day. Going my rounds today - while at BROWNES Batty I heard an explosion & looking out towards KABA TEPE I saw the water just falling & the smoke rising from the H.M.S. TRIUMPH. She had been torpedoed[ ] & I saw the periscope of the Submarine about 800 yds off her. Slowly she heeled over settling lower & lower in the water. After about 7 or 8 minutes I think she turned completely over & floated upside down for about 10 minutes & then sank [Page] 47
