had been omitted in the list of those sent forward for promotion to the rank of Bgd. General. He said however he had wired my name on & hoped soon to have it gazetted. Went round on a tour of inspection with the Lt. Gen. Commander Gen Birdwood to all the Guns in the Australian position (including Indian Mountain & 69th Howitzer [ ] Bde. Guns) He expressed his keen satisfaction at all he had seen & complimented me on my command. July 26th I shall not repeat in here in future the descriptions of my tours of inspections which take place daily- to most of the Guns & O. Stations. 'X' Bd Maj (Major Anderson) left today for ALEXANDRIA for a change, which he badly wants. Capt. Harris takes over his duties & Lt. VOWELLS that of Staff Captn Yesterday & today the Shells have been getting most wickedly near our "dug Out." Mervyn was nearly killed this morning. bullets came in our Mess Room & (?)
