Monday Feby 7th Saw W.O. Dowsett, promised his claim for promotion to a commission should be thoroughly considered next vacancy - there was nothing against him. Inspected No.1 Battery at Batty drill & manouvre. result not very satisfactory. Weak in movements for Action chief weakness O/C. Major Lucas. Inspected No.2 Battery. Work fairly good, but O/C made several rather bad mistakes in mis-interpretation of Orders. Sent map showing approx. positions of Batteries Canal Zone to G.O.C. & short report. Warned Bde Commanders about number of Officers away from camp from Saturday till Monday no night leave to be given on Sunday night. Fine day. Tuesday Feby 8th Inspected No.3 Batty under Capt Kingsmill - driving (dressing?) drill good but knowledge of coming & going out of Action very poor indeed. Issued instructions on points requiring attention on Artillery reconnaissance to Bde Arty Comder who left at 5 p.m. for Serapeum. Reced orders last night by wire to preside at F.G.C. Martial at SERAPEUM on Thursday 10th inst at 11 a.m. Col Rosenthal & Major Marks to dinner with us. Fine day. Wednesday Feby 9th Routine work in morning. Also saw Gunn LAREEN & Capt. WEBB D.A.C. re formers complaint of having been reduced from Sergt to ranks without trial or [Page] 9.
