'X' The awful waste of material in this part of the line is appalling, barbed wire sand bags, Corrugated lie about in all directions going to ruin - we found 2500 bags in an old Gun emplacement forgotten. Trenches tramways & drainage all show Slip Shod construction & little attempted at maintenance - I am told this is all on account of the heavy & continuous fighting & many changes but I cannot reconcile it with the fact that the Canadians have been here so long. again in many parts the area is in a filthy & unsanitary condition.
