but was unable to get any very definate information regarding move at 3.30 p.m. I inspected march past in column of route of 57th & 58th Bns & 15 M.G. Coy. fairly satisfactory. At 9.20 am I had inspect. 14th Infy Bde. Transport filing past my HQs on the Road this was very unsatisfactory. At 5.15.p.m gave a lecture on the duties & responsibilities of Officers at 15th Infy Bde H.Qs. Afterwards I attended one given by my G.S.O.1 at D.H.Q on staff duties. 'X' Accompanied by G.S.O.1 & A.D.C. I dined with Army Comdr Gen Sir H. de la P. GOUGH K.C.B. at ALBERT. very enjoyable Dinner. 10.30.p.m. recd definate orders that we are to relieve 2nd Aust Div. at once & take over at noon Thursday 10th inst. May 8th Wet morning. Gen Gough was to have inspected some of the Troops this morning at MONTAUBAN but on account of wet day was stopped. Long walk with Mervyn in Afternoon round camps to see if 14th Infy Bde & others were away. May 9th Very fine day. Bgdr. Gen Gellibrand called to see me in the morning & gave me valuable information about his experiences in the recent attack by the 2nd Div at Bullecourt particularly by his Bde. He also told me the 28th Bn & 2 Bns of the 5th Bde practically bolted. At 1.30 pm. left to call on G.O.C. 2nd Div at A.H.Qs at VAULX. I got as much information as possible from Maj Gen Smyth.
