Augst 22nd Fine day Col. Griffith sent car to me at 11.am. to fetch me to meet Maj Gen McCAY - whom I wanted to see re training Battery for 5th Div Art. Gen McCAY informed me he had already reported against it to Gen Birdwood but after hearing my views promised to reconsider it. the trouble appears want of Guns but even a section per Div would be better than present arrangements. Went to Hippodrome & saw Zig Zag in evening. Augst. 23rd Blowing threatening showery. To St. Margarets in morning on River until 4.p.m. with family. In evening invited & went with Sandovers to Carlton Hotel to Dinner & Chin Chin Chow. very good evening. Augst. 24th Rather cold windy day. some rain left Richmond for Kingston on Thames thence by Steamer "Sonning" to Henley. (left at 9.am) Col. Hearne & Wife with me. lunched at Windsor arrived at Henley at 7.10. pm stayed at Catherine Wheel Hotel. Augst. 25 Fine day but cold wind left Henley at 9.am. had lunch at WALLINGFORD Bdge [Page] 91.
