& daughter (Dorothy) In evening called on Sandovers Augst. 31st Fine day (retd from leave) left Richmond at 8/30 a.m to return to France. train left Charing X at 9.50.am. Boat left Folkestone at 12/30.p.m. arrived back at BLARINGHAM at 4/30.pm. Looked after Miss Birdwood on the way over. Got a nasty blow on arrival at Boulogne when I opened a letter from Col. Wagstaff my G.S.O.1 stating that he is to leave me for another appointment I get L'. Col. PECK in his stead. 'X' During my absence C. in C inspected best part of the Div. (2 Infy Bdes. F. Coy. & F. Am) & Pioneer Bn. & left message. tell HOBBS I am delighted with the Division nothing else much has occurred & I scarcely realize I have been away from the place. 'X' Tonight Mervyn told me he would like to make soldiering his profession I agreed & he will apply for a Comn in the Indian Army - Sept. 1st Showery all day.
