Sept. 17th 'X' 'X' fine day. The Division (except D.H.Qs) marched for STEENVORDE. I watched the 15th & 14th Bdes Groups march past near WALLON CAPELLE. Afterwards went to Corps. H.Qs. (1st Anzac) to see G.O.C. about appointing Capt LEGGE as B.M. to 14th Bde instead of Maj DICKENSON who does not satisfy me with his work. After lunch attended conference Div Comdrs. 1 & 2nd Divs. Corps Com & G.O.C.R.A C.R.A. 1st Div. G.S.O.1 1 - 2 - 5th Divs. Gen WHITE Commander in Chief & G.O.C.R.A Q H.Q also attended. The conference was in connection with forthcoming operations. Sept. 18th fine day. high wind dust awful Left BLARINGHAM this morning at (where I have spent such a useful & happy time training since July 29th.) for RENINGHELST where I arrived about 11.30 a.m. got very good quarters in the Cure's House. On the way called at 1st Anzac Corps. saw Gen White & also 2nd Army Comdr Went to lunch at DICKEBUSCHE with Gen WALKER Comdg. 1st Aust Div. Heard to my sorrow that Major DAVE ROGERS Comd. 8th Batt. 3rd Army F.A. Bde had been killed the day before. discussed the general situation with Gen WALKER & offered to assist him in any way I could. In afternoon went to see model trenches & area over which we have to fight very instructive & helpful. Very busy keeping abreast of things in connection with forthcoming operation Sept. 19 - fine day To G.Os.C 14th & 15th Infy Bdes. to warn them about being ready to march at an hours notice after 6.p.m today. Also to practice wearing Gas Masks after dark. Called at 1st Aust Div H.Qs. saw G.O.C & asked if I could do anything to help him he asked me to send Intelligence Officers from 14th & 15th Bdes. to report at his H.Qs at 4 pm. today to receive instructions.
