Notes On night of 1/2 March one of our patrols from 15th Bde. was caught by M. Gun fire near ? Trench & sought refuge in shell hole. The Bosche (sic) sent out a party (stopped his fire) & surrounded our patrol who surrendered. After taking their Respirators & making them take off the equipment the Bosche (sic) marched them off but lost direction passed through 1st Div O.P. line & were challenged at PORK Tr line of resistance. Our men (the prisoners) immediately threw their bombs which were in their pockets at the Bosche (sic) who panicked (sic) & mostly jumped into our trench they were all killed or captured. The 1st Div (through Col Blaney?) their S.G.O.1 said they were attacked by about 90 Germans whom they killed or beat off or captured & recaptured 6 of our men & an Alsatian. the C/O of one of our Infy Bdes had discovered what appeared to be a very good Bosche (sic) Dug Out when the retirement by the Bosche (sic) from the Bailey Trench
