raid planned for tonight. Also arranged for finding new Bde. H.Qs. for Bdes in the line. Discussed the relation of M. G. Coys to Infy Bdes etc. In Afternoon to 14th Infy. Bde. Saw G.O.C. discussed various matters of Bde administration & tactical test of Bde. & decided to send Bde in to relieve 8th Bde on night 26th 27th inst. June 23rd Bright day good vis cold wind. To 14th Infy. Bde. with G.O.C. inspected Corps & Army lines of defence & 53rd 54th 56th Bns holding them & saw each Bn comdr Saw M. G. concrete casemates in Army line which I quite disagree with. (In afternoon). Interviews with M.G.R.A. 4th Army re. losing 96th F. Art. Bde & keeping one Bde of F. Art. mobile instead of superimposed in Sector. Interview with G.O.C. 2nd Aust Div re. unsanitary condition of Sector & salvage etc when we took it over. X 59th Bn raided enemy trenches N on MORLANCOURT at 12.15 am last night & captured 8 Boches & killed several. 5 1/2.R.1R. 30th Bn raided with two parties enemy trenches S of MORLANCOURT one team failed & suffered about 1 doz cas. other killed 12 Boches & captured 2. 232nd R.1-R all 107 Res Div. Artillery Co operation very good. I think the team should have been stronger or 3 teams used & I advised Gen TIVEY yesterday. 59th Bn Show was an excellent one. June 24th Dull gloomy cold day. Quiet night. X The Chateau at Bussy la Dours D.H.Q 4th Aust Div which we lately occupied was struck last night by a Shell & the A.D.N.J. seriously injured. [Page] 19
