In morning went to see G.Os.C. 8th Infy Bde 14th & 15th Bdes & enquire into the condition of their command. Saw them all. The 2nd Aust. Div took the BEAUREVOIR here this morning & it is reported this afternoon that our cavalry have broken through. Got notice this afternoon that the Division would be sent for rest to a back area. Oct. 4th Fine day, indiff vis. Quiet night. 2nd Div made some ground during night. X In morning went to Aust. Corps. H.Qs & received instructions from Corps Commander with regard to Corps policy etc while he is away on leave. I am to assume command of Corps. at 1 p.m. tomorrow. stayed to lunch at Corps H.Q. ASSEVILLERS. very nice quarters built by the Huns as Winter quarters prior to their forced retirement. Major Woolton my G.S.O.II left today for a term at G.H.Q. H.Qs. & is replaced by Major Alec Forbes. Major Ball Comg. Y.H.A. Battery messed with us this evening. X Got news from G.H.Q this afternoon that Turkey had surrendered Oct. 5th Fine day. quiet night except that Boche long range gun is still dropping shell about here. 2nd Aust Div. believed to have gained their objective this morning MONTBEHAIN & captured over 100 prisoners. 14th & 15th Infy Bde groups marching to LE MESNIL on way to entrainment for back area for rest & training. I have been watching the 14th Bde go past & am suprised (sic) to see how well they look after the trying times they have just passed through. XX The total capture of prisoners & material in this last operation is 3 Officers 69.
