July 1838 Saturday 30th NW. Corporal & Melaney at work. Many whales in the bay O Sunday 1st W The Cattle still absent O Monday 2nd S A sale of damaged flour at the store O Tuesday 3rd N.W. Much rain & violent Gusts of wind. left the Vasse after breakft. & reached abt. 2 miles S of the Rapids a very violent night both as to wind and rain. Wednesday 4th - NW Rains & windy reached the 2nd [...] beyond McLeods Creek- - bad night feet swollen Thursday 5 NW & N Weather more moderate country flooded. reached home abt. 12 oClock Friday 6. NW. Strong gales with occasl rain Saturday 7 NW. Do Wr. Sunday 8th NW. Squalls & heavy & Continued Rain. the River very high many whales seen in the bay during the last week Monday 9th NW. Weather moderating tides still very high went to the beach & abt. 4 oClock hauled up my large boat rather a wreck, saw 3 Whales one very close in with the Reef Tuesday 10th West Strong Gales with much Thunder & Lightening heavy squalls of rain at times. Kate seen without her foal. sought for it without success. Wednesday 11. West to W.S.W Moderate & Cloudy Wr. light showers. throt the day planting out cabbages &c. Thursday 12. SW & W. Moderate & fine Wr. C.M. at Potatoes put out some Mangel Wurzel & Cabbage plants. Friday 13. NW. Cloudy Wr. with light airs.
