etceteras of a lady's toilet arranged. I was full of the idea of seeing my dear friends Dr Benson, Fanny Barryfield and perhaps George Mowbray. How different a scene did the coming day disclose! We listened anxiously to every sound during the night and dressed under all the delicious excitement felt by those who have so long made their dwelling "upon the deep waters" As I ascended to the deck I was greeted with the sounds "Miss Bussell look your last look upon Africa we do not touch there". It was blowing very fresh and the sea ran high. I looked as long as I could upon the Cape Mountains but they were too distant to offer anything beyond the outline. In the midst of all our regrets Bessy and I could not help whispering. We are so much nearer to the dear Brothers! We are not quite sorry but with others this affair has not passed off [Page 9]
