therefore Lenox [...] and Bessy were busy in fitting up his cabin for our dining room and a very comfortable appearance it soon expressed. But affairs did not, I rejoice to say continue long to bear so formidable an appearance. Mrs Harris candidly acknowledged that much had been said in a moment of irritation and that she hoped the comfortable terms which our families had hitherto maintained would be restored. I assured her for I had been summoned into her cabin for a private conference that we had each withdrawn from pique or resentment but that as Lenox & Mr. Harris differed so very much in their opinions we had judged it more conducive to the general well being of the society to withdraw.
