highly esteem had its proper effect and Bessy and I appeared at table as usual The obvious subject was avoided but Lenox remained unmollified. I blamed Mr. Harris in a subsequent conversation with him for not having requested Len's cooperation instead of irritating him by argument and ridicule and that too on a nautical point - I have not mentioned Mrs Leake of course her attack upon Len and Bessy was envied and feminine quarrels are about as unmodified as masculine and far more disgusting. I had before I sate [sic] down to table requested Bessy to be silent and as Lenox was not silent the wordy war was in my hands.
