review before me My first sumation was that of desolation Captain Stirling was absent we knew no one in a strange land. We will not go on shore we will stay in our own ship which has at least been hallowed by Mamma's presence For the evening when we were alone we sate down & tried to occupy ourselves I attempted to day the sea weed which you will find in this book but Mr. McDermot soon put a stop to such domestic pursuits. In this Colony "No" is never an answer and though Bessy & I virtuously determined to abide by the ship, we soon found he was determined to go without us so we set off with him & Mr. Toby, and were greeted on this jetty at Fremantle by a vocal gentleman Mr. McDermot [Page 35]
